Hey, who turned the lights off?
I totally thought my computer had spazzed or something (it often does strange things) when I went to Google a few minutes ago:
Turns out they "turned the lights out" to raise awareness of a thing called Earth Hour. That's great and all, but geez Google, ya scared me for a second there! :(
Cheery bye, Scarlett

Why I Love Kate Bush
I'm on Spring Break now (I go back on Monday) so I'm pretty much just chillin'! I saw this meme floating around on LJ and thought I'd use it as a sort of template for my "Why I Love..." thing I'm trying to do - I've only done Kylie so far (here) so I need to do some more cool peeps! The bold underlined bit is what I'm concentrating on, the rest is a cool meme to do if you'd like!
Open up your music library. Find at least five bands that are fronted by amazing, rocking women. Or entirely made up of them! Tell your flist about them! Sample songs! Pictures! Video! Reasons why they are the rockingest ladies ever! Then tag some people to do the same! (If you do the same band as someone else, give us some different songs/pictures/opinions on rockingness.)
Kate Bush How? I first listened to her back in the fall of 2005. I downloaded Hounds Of Love because I had kept hearing about this Kate Bush person and in all the stuff written about her it seemed that HOL was her masterpiece. I listened to the first track, "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)", and liked what I heard. While listening to the second track I also like what I was hearing - and then Kate started barking! I knew then that I would end up either thinking she was nuts or falling in love with her music. Turns out it was the latter - with a tiny bit of the former! ;) So, why? Kate Bush is the very definition of brilliant. Her music made me realize that music can be art. I don't think I ever truly appreciated the power of a song until I heard her music. Creative, uninhibited, unique, expressive, literate - her work is all that and more. Audio Evidence: - From her debut album The Kick Inside, Them Heavy People is one of my favorite early Kate tracks. Listen to the lyrics - you'd never believe she wrote this in her late teens!!
- Lionheart was Kate's second album and isn't generally thought of as one of her best. Recently I gave it a really good listen and fell in love with it. You just have to give it a try! :) Hammer Horror is cool beans but unfortunately didn't catch on when it was released as a single.
- Never For Ever saw Kate back on top form after the relative low-keyness of Lionheart. I absolutely love Egypt - a beautiful track!
- The Dreaming is my favorite Kate album and quite possibly my favorite album period. I wrote about it on my music blog last year so check that out if you wanna hear the whole album. Be sure to listen to Suspended In Gaffa and the epic Get Out Of My House!
- Kate's most well known album is probably Hounds Of Love but to be truly honest, I've never considered it one of my own favorites. I love it, but I really adore her early work. Hounds Of Love is a wonderfully frantic tune and features Kate doing barking (literally) background vocals. :)
- I've not yet been able to get into The Sensual World (and Aerial, for that matter) like I have all of her other albums but Never Be Mine is gorgeous!
- The Red Shoes tends to get a bit of flack for being too "commercial". Yeah, it's slicker than her other work, but it's still Kate! And So Is Love features Eric Clapton on guitar but the real star of this track is Kate's almost mournful vocals.
- King Of The Mountain is so atmospheric and kicks off Aerial in fine form.
- Last but not least, here is one of my favorite Kate B-sides: You Want Alchemy. Glorious!
Video Evidence: The first video I saw of Kate's was Wuthering Heights (the white dress version) and it remains one of my fave Kate videos, simply for its initial "Is she crazy or what?" factor. Them Heavy People and Hammer Horror are wonderful in their simplicity, and Babooshka (Kate as warrior princess!) continues the trend. Suspended In Gaffa has a little more scenery but Cloudbusting blows away Gaffa's sunlit barn with its mini movie (featuring Donald Sutherland for some reason!)! This Woman's Work (featuring Tim McInnerny of Blackadder fame) will leave you in tears. Taken from Kate's short film The Line, The Cross, and The Curve, Rubberband Girl is really cool, but her most recent video for King Of The Mountain isn't really one of my faves - nice, but kinda "meh". Picture Evidence: Cheery bye, Scarlett
