P.S. The nose goblins have missed you, too
An addendum to a reply to an email by GlitterRock (vote for him! - see last post). :) I do love those nose goblins... *sheds a tear*
Well, nothing too interesting to post about... I went shopping at Borders (a nifty bookstore with books and lots more) and was terribly disMAYed (tee hee!) to find that they had no solo recordings by Brian May, Roger Taylor or Freddie Mercury! What's all that about?? And their selection of Queen albums/etc was quite shoddy and the prices were SO marked up. I can get 'em cheap(er) at this great used CD shop that I usually go to to make my CD purchases (ooh, don't I sound high-falutin'), but I had a gift card (whee!) and was aching to buy stuff. So, with the girt card, I got We Will Rock You (live in concert! On DVD! Woo-hoo!) and an Ofra Haza album (Shirey Moledet, Pt. 3), and then with some more of my graduation money I bought a trancey-remix album, a remix album by The Scumfrog, and a remix album of Natacha Atlas songs. I got the Scumfrog thing because I love his remix of Kylie's Love At First Sight, but I'm not sure if I love the album yet. I haven't listened to it all yet (I'm listening to Ofra Haza right now, actually), but there doesn't seem to be a great deal of variety in the remixes. However, there is a nifty mix featuring David Bowie's Loving The Alien, which is nice, even though I've never heard the original.
Speaking of Bowie, I think I'm going to end up being a fan, because I quite like the greatest hits collection cd of my mom's. I've stolen from her for the time being... she keeps asking if she can have it back sometime, and I say "Sure", but really, I plan on keeping it! (Just kidding ;) ) Golden Years is fantastic. And I can't think of a good segue into the next subject... so I'm just going to...
Start talking about whatever it is that I wanted to talk about. Which was... oh dear, can't remember. Oh yes - the trance cd has a remix of Clannad's Almost Seems (Too Late To Turn), but (1) they got the title wrong (they left out the Almost Seems bit), (2) they didn't credit Clannad as the writers of the song, and (3) it was pig dootish. Maybe my expectations were too high because it's a Clannad song. The remixer didn't use all of the vocals, and the vocals he did use didn't always match with the beats. :( *wipes away tear* Besides, I prefer AS(TLTT) as its original self, because it causes tears to well up. Lovely song.
Well, I've got to get to watching We Will Rock You, because I simply love Queen! *love love love* And as I said before, I was quite unhappy that I didn't find any albums at Borders that (1) I didn't already have or (2) were not over $20. *wipes away another tear* I did, however, find 2 books that were Queen-related, which was nice, until I flicked through them. "God Save My Queen" was, as far as I could discern, a collection of some guy's really odd thoughts about each track of every album from Queen to Hot Space. I didn't think I would ever really read it, so I didn't buy it, even though I was tempted because it's about Queen! Then there was the Freddie Mercury biography sort of thing that I thought would be about his whole life, as most biographies usually follow that pattern. From what I could tell after glancing through the book, it focused mainly on his illness and subsequent decline. It looked horribly depressing and probably would have left me in tears so I didn't get that, either. It's so sad to think about him suffering (listen to The Show Must Go On and tell me your eyes don't well up a bit!), let alone to read about it... silly old sad biography. Oh dear, now I've gotten depressed. *Killer Queen chorus suddenly pops up in whatever passes for my brain* Okay, better now. :) *images from video of their Top of the Pops performance of Killer Queen suddenly pops up in brain* Mmm, *much* better now! :D And on that note...
Cheery bye,, Scarlett
