"You want to be the sort of person who can use words like 'inarticulate'."

In other news...about the quote...The Devil. No, really, in Bedazzled (with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, of course). It's a funny quote. Really.
Ooooooh.... I feel a lyric coming on........
o/' I feel so in-a-in-a-in-a-in-a-in-a-in-ar-ticulate! o/' (Sheer Heart Attack).
Ah, I feel better now. :)
Anyways... tomorrow we leave for the beach! Hurray and huzzah! Ah, the beach. :D
I chatted with my buddy in England, David, today. :) According to him, I'm quite amusing. Puffs up the ego a bit! :D But anyway, we had a lovely chat, and he was surprised to learn that I really do say "Cheery bye" in conversation. He thought I only used it to sign off online and stuff, but no, I actually say it. Yep. I know, I'm a very silly person! :)
All right, time for the fun stuff! Icons!!

Use 'em and love 'em! :D I've only made one Deaky icon so far... I must make several more. Poor Deaky! :)
Well, that's all for now. See you in a week!

I'm still waiting to hear about my ANATO application... I may just launch the dang thing, approval or not. The world needs an A Night At The Opera fanlisting! And I've got so much stuff for it, all already done, because I assumed (silly old me) that I would hear back in a reasonable amount of time about my app, and would need to post and launch the site sharpish. Serves me for assuming, huh?
*aches to launch the fanlisting*
Well, while I ache, I can at least be excited about -- THE BEACH! Yes, our annual family vacation that usually runs along the same lines as a National Lampoon Vacation movie, is next week. We leave on Saturday for Wildwood, New Jersey. We've been going there since the year dot! I love it there - I don't particularly like the beach bit, cos I'm just not a sand and surf sort of person, but I LOVE the boardwalk with all of the pick up (crane?) machines. I hope to beat my record from last year, cos I won a LOT of things out of those machines last year. It's not so much the actual little plush thing that's so great, it's that thrill of *finally picking it up*!!!
Anyways... I'll probably have icons tomorrow night. I'm not really in an icon-making mood; you have to be inspired, and I'm not. I'm just tired. ;)

Whoop! I have a story to tell! Oh, stop rolling your eyes, you might like it.
We went to a neat, chock-full-of-history city today, and naturally, we went shopping. We ended up in a very trippy shop (yes, I said "trippy", because that's the best word that comes to mind!) with incense and lots of t-shirts and very hippy, bohemian clothing. Very, very neat indeed! Anyways, that's not the really neat bit. I asked the shop owner if he had any Queen t-shirts (they had Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, etc. shirts) and sadly, he didn't, but my family and I got to hear about who has the liscensing to make Queen t-shirts. :) The guy went on and on, and it was quite interesting. Anyways, that's not the neat part either.
As we were leaving (I got a spangly silver ring), he said that he had SEEN QUEEN IN CONCERT. Blimey! So we all turned around (I kind of spun around, being the insane Queen fan I am) and waited to hear *that* story. He saw them in 1980, IN CONCERT! He said that before he saw them, he hadn't really been a big fan, but after that concert, he thought "Wow, those guys are GOOD!" (imagine this being said by a hippy). He especially liked "the guitarist" (Brian May, of course) when he did his solo and was just "rockin'". :D
I breathed the same air as a guy who breathed the same air as QUEEN!!!! OK, so it's a stretch, but WOW! Spangly!! :D :D
Whew! Neat, huh? :D
I'm sorry to say that I have no icons for tonight, but I did submit three blended images to Acid Rock (Madonna) Blends, so take a look at those if you'd like.

o/' Someone (someone) just drained the color from my wings, broken my fairy circle ring... o/'
And shamed the king and all his pride, changed the winds and wronged the tide... I LOVE My Fairy King; it's so beautiful and... ah, it's just perfect.
Ooh, Keep Yourself Alive just came on (my CD is on "shuffle"). Must dance. *twirls fingers in the air* OK, all better now.
A funny thing happened on the way to the... psychiatrist's office. Ha, thought I was gonna say "forum", right? No? OK, anyway. So yeah, I had a little update-type appointment with my psych to make sure that, among other things, my medication isn't killing me or anything. It isn't, it's working just fine, so the visit was a bit dull for me. But anyways, the funny bit was on the way there. I had my headphones on, listening to Queen (I - their first album), and halfway through Liar, I started dozing off. I would hear snippets of music ("ROCK N' ROOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL!") and then fall back asleep. Now, this could make sense, if the office took a bit of time to get to, but it was only about a half-hour drive... My mom woke me up, saying that we were almost there, and I said "OK, I'm just going to listen to my music a little more until we get there". She said "Won't you just fall back asleep?" and I said "No, no, it'll wake me up." So, second chorus into Keep Yourself Alive, I was asleep again as we pulled into the parking lot. I did wake up, however, and was fully functioning the rest of the day.
It's a weird experience falling asleep to Queen. I've fallen asleep while listening to music before, but falling asleep to Queen is a new experience. I mention this just because, well, can you imagine falling asleep to those guitars in Liar? Blimey! Only *I* could do something as silly as fall asleep to Liar, which usually has me flailing all about, attempting to "rock out".
And now we come to the icon portion of the post:

Love that Impressive Instant! I wish Madonna would do more trance-y, dance-y stuff like that. Face it, American Life was a bit pig doots. A good album, to be sure, but... not spectacular. If she took the Ray of Light album and smushed (a technical term) it together with Impressive Instant and the high points of Music, you'd have yourself a spangly-tastic album. I have the same beef with Kylie - take Impossible Princess and combine it with the... well, don't combine it with anything, just do another album like IP! Anyways, that's boring.

Easy Ride, Madonna. Quite good, really. :)
Whoop! Another lovely day of, well, nothing really too exciting. I've been updating my Enya site... not a whole bunch of updates, but stuff that really needed updating. As I was checking to make sure all the links in the link section worked, I was sad to find that some sites had closed down.
A while ago, I went to visit Angeles! The Enya Site, but I got an HTTP 404 error. I checked it again today, and once again got the error, so I guess Angeles is gone. This is terribly disheartening. Angeles was one of *the* Enya sites online. When I first started searching for Enya sites online, Angeles was one of the first Enya sites I visited, and continued to visit frequently. Well, Angeles and Magic&Melody, and if Magic&Melody ever closes down, then that's the end of an entire era.
Angeles' closing down is an end to an era too, however. It was one of the first sites ever, I think, to have a fanlisting-type feature - the Enya Fan Database. Though the site is closed, it seems that many Enya sites still display their "Member of the Enya Fan Database" banner proudly. That, or they just haven't checked for awhile and don't realize that it's a dead link. ;)
Anyways, what I'm trying to say, though not very articulately, is that it's sad to see that Angeles is gone. Farewell, Angeles.
Angeles isn't the only Enya site that has disappeared. Adrian Wong's Enya Site, Shai'tan's Enya Page (or whatever, it was either Site, Page, or Website!), Kai Fai's Enya Tea House Moon... one by one, little memories of my Enya fannishness are disappearing. I've been in an Enya mood recently, digging out my many Enya albums and reacquainting myself with them. That's what brought this bout of website nostalgia on. :)
I can't believe how long I've been listening to Enya's music, and I really can't believe how long I've had my trusty Enya site online. It's been online in various forms since, I guess, around 1999/2000. Whew. I know that doesn't seem like such a long time, but do consider that I'm only 17, and I haven't lived that long yet, so four/five years still seems like a long time. :D Aw, my Enya site. *hugs site* It was my first real website, and so I've got a soft spot for it.
In other news... my Maire Brennan fanlisting is now listed on thefanlistings.org! Whee! I am, however, still drumming my fingers impatiently as I wait for a response about my A Night At The Opera fanlisting that I applied for about three months ago... *annoyed* ...and waiting for a response about the Bedtime Story song fanlisting I applied for a week or so ago *not so annoyed*.
Ooh, I want to launch my ANATO fl so bad!! So so so so so so bad! *grrr*
Ah well. Here are three Enya icons that are really quite dodgy...

I originally intended that last one to have an animation, but it turned out to look silly, so now it just looks boring. Only Time isn't even one of my favorite songs, but I like it enough; besides, I have .mov files of the video, so it's easy to make animated icons for the song. ;) For those who are wondering (ha ha), my fave Enya song is Anywhere Is.
...the weird thing is that I'm listening to Madonna's American Life album right now... but this whole post is about Enya. Well, Enya and fanlistings. Huh.
That's all for tonight. :D

- from a recent email from David (of the DNAs)
o/' You go there you're gone forever, I go there I lose my way, we stay here we're not together, anywhere is... o/'
Though it may come as somewhat of a shock, I'm listening to Enya right now. "What? Not Queen?!" you say. I know! I'm just as shocked as you are.
Ho hum... a very dull day, yet again. But I did get the DNA site updated - whoop! Take a look if you have a mo'. ( http://www.lunaestas.com/doctorwho/bus ) I think I'm going to bug David (the "David" in David's New Adventures [DNA]) to write me into a story sometime soon, cos golly, it got really old really fast working on the site. I just copied and pasted and fixed the pages and stuff and it was *soooo tedious* and took several hours today to finish, cos most of it was just technical work. So I just listened to Queen II for several hours on end and got through it. *whew*
I mean, I love working on websites, but when it's not exactly fun to work on because it's not your own work cos you're designing for someone else, it just tends to get a bit boring to work on for hours and hours. It's not like I have anything better to do, of course! It's either design the site or twiddle my thumbs all day.
In other news... I rejoined OG (Outpost Gallifrey) in a moment of weakness, really. I thought "What the heck" and signed back up. You see, I'd drifted away from the forum, and thought I'd probably never return because it's so dang hard to keep up with forum talk. I love Doctor Who, but I really don't have much to say about it anymore. I posted 400+ times in the old OG forum, and I doubt I'll reach that count in the new one.
Posting in OG was a unique time in my life. Rather, it was part of a unique time in my life. I started posting there at the height of my obsession, continued posting through CBT, then continued posting after that. There were lots of memories and inside jokes that the other posters probably don't cherish like I do - those memories and jokes really sustained me during that time and I clung on to them (and Doctor Who, I should mention) like a security blanket. After the CBT, I began to be able to really function again and I no longer needed that security blanket, and I began posting less and less until I just stopped. Even poor Doctor Who has been pushed aside a bit. It was there when I needed something to focus on and now that I'm so much better, I need the comfort of Doctor Who less and less. During my obsession, I was as much obsessed with my fear as I was with Doctor Who! But that was my coping mechanism. I'll forever have sentimental, fond memories of watching Doctor Who, but now that I'm OK, I don't need that coping mechanism.
It's a good thing, I suppose, this not being as fanatical about Who as I once was. It signals a change in me: like I said, I no longer need a coping mechanism. That feels good. But at the same time, I'm sad that I don't seem to have that insane interest in the show as I used to. I still enjoy watching it (well, the Fourth Doctor stories, at least) and reading about it and reading novels of it, and basically enjoy the whole idea of "Doctor Who", but... not to the extent that I once enjoyed it.
I'm sure that mini-rant above was a bit confusing, considering I've never mentioned an "obsession" or "CBT" before in this blog. I'm not going to explain it, because I'd make a mess of it! Suffice it to say that I suffered from a very difficult obsession for about a year and a half, and was able to overcome it through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I still have OCD; blimey, do I ever, but not like that. Not anymore. :)
Sorry about this semi-somber post, but... I dunno. All right, now for some icons. Kylie and Dannii today! Poor Dannii hasn't gotten a look-in at all yet on my blog, so it's about time. :)

Take 'em and love 'em. :) I should explain about the Kylie icons: One day I opened a pic of Kylie I had saved, and a dialog box popped up saying that the image had been truncated, blah blah blah. Well, turns out that's pretty cool, because in PhotoShop I kept clicking on the image and fiddling with it and it would come up with some crazy images - it would smush (technical term) a bunch of pictures from the folder I had saved it in to create "blends" of pictures. That made no sense, but... um... enjoy. :)
That's all for now!

Ahem. Anyways. I'm sorry I didn't post last night - I was just too terribly tired to. Nothing interesting happened yesterday, so it's just as well!
Of course, today was nothing special either, but oh well... I got another Dave Barry book today. Whoop! Well, I'm glad! I need something to read, and what better to read than something absurdly humorous? :)
I also got two singles, "Queen 'We Will Rock You' and 'We Are The Champions' (Ruined by Rick Rubin)"; and that two-track American Life single with the Calderone & Quayle Afterlife remix of Die Another Day. Here's what I have to say about these two singles:
The "Queen 'We Will Rock You' and 'We Are The Champions' (Ruined by Rick Rubin)" single:
I can't say I had very high hopes for this one: the longest remix is 5 mins long, and I already have it on the re-release of NOTW (News of the World). But because I thought that was a very well-done remix, I thought this single was worth getting. And I was wrong, of course. The "Ruined Instrumental" is basically just the full remix cropped for time and stripped of the vocals; "We Are The Champions", not labeled as a remix, is, in fact, a remix. And a HORRIBLE one at that. I can't really believe that anyone would want to actually release that mix. Of course, WATC shouldn't be remixed at all, because it's perfect. But if you're going to rmeix it, remix it *well*! Golly! All right, on to the next track: "Big Beat A Cappella" is a waste too, as it's just, in essence, the drum loops and scratches playing for about 2 mins. Booooring, to say the least. The "Zulu Scratch A Cappella" is the only reason I'm happy that I got the single, because it has the vocals from WWRY a cappella. Yeah, it has a few silly record scratchings, but I'm so happy to have this track. Now I can attempt a remix of WWRY! But aside from the Zulu Scratch and the 5min remix, the single is pig doots. Period. ("Ruined" should really have tipped me off, hmm?)
Madonna's American Life single:
Well, it only has two tracks on it, one of which I already have (Amercian Life radio edit). But I like remixes... a lot... so I consider this single to be worth it. The Die Another Day (Calderone & Quayle Afterlife Mix) is quite good, although I'll have to listen to it a few more times before I really like it. (My favorite remixes of DAD are "Thee RetroLectro Mix" and "Richard Humpty Vission Electrofired Mix", if'n you were wondering. ;) ) The single is also enhanced, although the special web link didn't work. Oh well. Makes me sad, but what can you do?
All right, on to happier things! Specifically, lovely icons! I made a whole bunch (that's a technical term) and can't really figure out why. I just sort of started and couldn't stop making icons tonight... must be the Queen influence... :D Anyways, as I'm a member of the queen_icons community on LJ, I thought I should start making a few more icons of the rest of the band too, and not just Freddie Mercury, even though I'm quite sure I could happily spend the rest of my days making only Mercury icons. :D So, here are a bunch of icons. Have fun!

Take 'em, use 'em, and love 'em. :D
...
Oh yes, I said I'd explain that "Hmm, my teeth are in the key of G..." quote the day before. OK, here's the explanation: My mom and I were looking at Queen pics, and we came across this one that features Brian apparently chewing on a piano tuner. It just hit me really funny when my mom came up with a caption of "Hmm, my teeth are in the key of G...", cos he looks like he could really be thinking that, and the way my mom said it was funny too. I guess you had to be there. But in any case, it's funny. No really! It is!

Anyways, moving on. Again, another day of boredom, but it was a fun sort of boredom. I got a lot done today, so I'm feeling very accomplished. I decided on using drop-down menus on the DNA site (I'm redesigning it) and got the SSI to work the way I wanted it to. Whoop!
I also got back to emails that I have meant to respond to from as far back as early last month! Phew. I'm so happy that I finally got round to answering all those emails.
And, I was sent a rejection notice for the Queen fanlisting I had applied for, which funnily enough, I was a bit relieved to see. I think the fanlisting would be better off with someone else, because I'd agonize over whether the site was up to snuff and such. I had begun doubting whether I'd be able to create a really fantastic fanlisting devoted to Queen - think of all the years I'd have to take into account! Queen deserves a really great fanlisting, and although I would have put all of my effort into making the listing, I'd never feel that I had made a great site.
Hmm. Ok, a lot of that made no sense, but oh well, I think I got my point across.
And now, icons!

The Prophet's Song! :D
Erm, nothin' much to comment on today. No icons to speak of, no humorous events...
Well, one little thing, I suppose. On thefanlistings.org, in the latest Musicians:Band/Groups update, the Queen fanlisting is listed as "closed - open for application". As you've probably already guessed, I applied for it. There *has* to be a Queen fanlisting online! If I don't get approved for it, that's all right, because as long as someone is approved, then that means that there will be a Queen fanlisting. Of course, I'd love to run a Queen fanlisting. *squeals* I love Queen!
BTW, I've been listening to A Night At The Opera again, and it never fails to just blow me away. That is *such* a fantastic album... The Prophet's Song is such an epic song, and the guitars are so *cool*, and the a cappella bit where Freddie is multi-tracked is hypnotic... mmm, Prophet's Song... <3
In other news, I've also applied for a fanlisting for the song Bedtime Story by Madonna. That is a cool song. Nowhere near The Prophet's Song (heaven forbid!), but it's neat in it's own right. It's basically the precursor to the Ray of Light style. Plus it's got a surreal, beautiful, and rather *weird* video to go along with it. I'm quite surprised there isn't a fanlisting for it already!
...
Not much else to say, except for -
Cheery bye, Scarlett ;)

...it's just me and the road from here! Love that Sleeping on the Sidewalk! :D
Whoop! Another uneventul day. :/ We did, however, go out to Best Buy to waste some money ;) and, although a good idea, it wasn't that fun. You see, I've got social anxiety (mildly, I suppose), and the store was so crowded. I felt like I wanted to scream, but, you know, I don't think the Best Buy personnel would have like that very much... ;) No really, I did feel like I wanted to scream or something, cos I was just so... eh. You know, irrationally nervous, hands clenched. I have this thing whenever I'm out and about where I try not to be an imposition to anyone. If, for example, someone were to come barrelling down a corridor and knock me down, *I'd* say "Oh, I'm so sorry!". Yeah, I know, weird, but pbfft. That's me. So I'm extra-aware of my presence (and there's a lot of me to be aware of, which is probably another reason why I've got such issues with the social thing) and am always darting back and forth in aisles and stuff so as to not be in anyone's way. This probably makes no sense, but I feel a bit better now having typed it. :)
And it's not as though I actually *am* in anyone's way. Almost always, I'm not, but don't tell me that at the time, because in the moment, I think I am.
No, I am not crazy. I probably could have articulated this better, but ah well. Pbfft.
*is loving We Are the Champions while typing cos it's playing right now*
Yes, well. Erm, no icons tonight, I'm afraid. Okay, you can stop cheering now. Please? ;)
Today I came across this fantastic blending site - a Madonna blend site! I've just submitted an image for the Hollywood challenge; wish me luck. :D Although I'm the first to admit that it looks a bit pig dootish, but I kind of like it...
o/' Do you know do you know do you know just how I feel? Sheeeeeeeeeeeer heart attack! o/'
I love me some Sheer Heart Attack. :)
Hey hey hey hey! Ok, sorry, I'll stop now.

"Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllll cardiac!"

All right, I promise, I'll stop!

"I feel so in-a in-a in-a in-a in-a in-a in-a in-a in-articu-late!!"
I'll hush up now. :)

Bicycle Race! Sh-sh-sha! Love that song. :D
Well, yet another day of non-events. I woke up (whoop!) and that's about it. :/
I watched some TV, read some Dave Barry, listened to some music... all in all, a pleasant day. I watched some of Madonna's Drowned World Tour and now can't get Impressive Instant out of my head. I also can't get Bicycle Race out of my head. What an extremely odd combination, hmm?
Hmm. It's quite nice being bored, don't you think? :)
And now we come to the icon posting. Here are three icons featuring the lovely Kylie:

I quite like the first one! :)
Now for the icons featuring the really lovely Freddie Mercury!

I really like the last one; isn't he dishy? :D
I've also got that "Did I saaaayyyyy-eeeeeeeee something wrong?" bit from the Drowned World performance of Human Nature running through my head. Just thought you'd like to know. ;)
Cheery b--- Wait!!
I was about to post this when I thought, "What this blog needs is another good old-fashioned lover boy." Then I realized I had thought of the title to a fantastic Queen song, and re-thought my thought. "What this blog needs is another good old-fashioned rant." (I also compared the two thoughts and decided that the first one was far more amusing than the second.)
So here's my rant. It's not a big one, but it's full of rant-y goodness. All right, here goes.
*Ahem*
Why can't Kylie do another album like Impossible Princess?
And there's my rant. :D :D

"Homer to Jebus!" - Homer, The Simpsons. Classic stuff!
o/' You gonna take me to that Dreamer's Ball...? o/'
:D From Dreamer's Ball, Queen. Lovely stuff!
All right, I'm afraid I have to retract one of my comments from one of my first blog rants. You may recall that I commented on the samples used in the Seven Seas of Rhye Remix. Ha ha! Of course you don't, I'm just kidding.
When commenting on one of the vocal samples used on the track, I postulated that...
...The "Eeee-ma-hee" (that's what it sounds like!) might be a bit of one of Freddie's vocals from Rhye played backwards, but just sounds... odd... even though it could have sounded cool with a bit of vocal effects and if it had been the *only* excess vocal used.
I was, of course, absolutely wrong and therefore feel like a big doofus. I finally got the Queen album Jazz today (whee!), and when I played the song Mustapha, I felt like a dork. *That's* where the vocal sample came from! I was being pretentious and assumed the sample was from SSOR, but I was wrong, and thus feel a bit silly. So, the sample came from Mustapha, and not from SSOR. And BTW, he's saying "Ibrahim", not "Eeee-ma-hee". :)
OK, time for the icon portion of the post. I felt like making several Madonna avs, but ended up with a bunch (that's a technical term). So, here they are:

And I modified one of my Freddie Mercury icons to be 60x60 pixels so I could use it on a forum. Take a gander...

And the post would not be complete without some 100x100 avs of Queen/Freddie Mercury. :D

Once more, feel free to use any or all of these. No credit required, just enjoy them. :) Sorry that these particular icons aren't all spangly... I'll try to create some spangly-tastic avs for my next post. ;)
Well, I think I'm going to turn in now... getting quite sleepy... *snore* What? Oh yes...

welcome! |
| Scarlett (of
lunaestas.com)'s weblog. A
silly blog with no deep thoughts or "musings." I just post
thoughts and observances that amuse me, and I hope will amuse
someone else! :) (Fastidious & Precise - a lyric from Queen's song
Killer Queen. No, the lyric has nothing to do with anything, I
just thought it sounded nifty!) |
