The name
Why Dynamite with a Laserbeam?  It's one of my favorite lines from the Queen song, Killer Queen.  Besides that, I can't really give a good reason why I thought to name my collective DWAL. ;)  I just like the line - it sounds spiffy. :)

The reason
Why make - and for that matter, maintain - a "fanlisting"? I first came across "fls" a few years back and I really liked the idea of them. A fanlisting is really nothing more than a list of names of people who like whatever the subject of the fanlisting is. It sounds dull and... well, dull. Even pointless. Right?

But! Those who think fanlistings are pointless are probably also the people who think things like tabloids, cotton candy, and the Macarena are pointless. Maybe there's no scholarly point to fanlistings (or tabloids, cotton candy, or the Macarena) - but who cares? They're fun, they make people happy, they give the owners of the fanlistings a chance to share their interest and - the most important point here - it's the Internet.
